This is the sixth in a series of annual Oil Leak Tours put together by a group of Jaguar enthusiasts. Each year we take a week off and get together to drive the twisty roads of a different part of the country, to enjoy our cars and the company of fellow devotees. The group first met through the Jag-Lovers forums, and since then have met face-to-face through these trips. The first trip was in 2011 as the result of the inspiration of Paul Wigton to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first E-Type. This year's trip will explore the California coast from San Luis Obispo, through Monterey/Carmel, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Fort Bragg, Eureka, Weed and ending in Redding.

Day 2 - Santa Cruz to Sonoma

Day 2 of the CCOL started in Santa Cruz. After losing MIK to a generator failure, Jerry and Dave were leading the group in Jerry's Porsche Boxster. An unusually late start allowed cars to be worked on in daylight....

Honestly, I don't know what was going on here, but as usual it looks like it took at least 6 grown men to jump start a car...
The first leg of the drive today was an exhilarating climb into the Santa Cruz mountains on Highway 9. The twisty section from Boulder Creek to Skyline Blvd was particularly enjoyable and woke everyone up very nicely!

The next stop was Alice's Restaurant on Skyline Blvd for a belated breakfast. A popular hangout for motorcycle and car enthusiasts, there is always a lot to see in the parking lot. Today, the Jaguars had it...

The route then took us towards San Francisco along Skyline Blvd and US-280.

As we approached San Francisco, the blue sky faded to white and we were engulfed in a typical San Francisco fog.

A sunny day in San Francisco!
Our original plan had us taking lunch at the Beach Chalet overlooking the Pacific Ocean, but full bellies, and skinny wallets prevailed, and we settled for a photo opp...

While waiting for some stragglers to arrive, Norm and Deirdre made the mistake of complimenting the dog of a local resident in the parking lot. This resulted in an explosive rant by the owner, demanding that all Republicans and apartment owners be shot! I shot the following photo of his license plate as he left, in case he decided that E-Type owners are all Republicans or apartment owners and wanted to wipe out us and our cars. Only in San Francisco...

San Francisco was not designed for the automobile. As a result, there were several missteps along the way before we reached the next stop at the south end of the Golden Gate bridge.

Nothing to note here except the BLUE sky!

Recognize this view point below? Take a look at the scene from Hitchcock's Vertigo: Vertigo clip. And isn't that a Jaguar Mk VIII or IX parked at the edge?

We then headed across the Golden Gate bridge to the Vista Point at the north end.

The North End of the bridge was less fog-bound, and the Vista Point is a popular tourist attraction.

A Ford Fairlane full of Oatmeal's ancestors. They seemed pretty out of it, but that's San Francisco for you...

As usual, the cars attracted more attention than the "Vista" they'd stopped to see....
The remainder of the drive to Sonoma was largely uneventful, and we checking into our Hotel around 4pm. Sonoma turned out to be less hot than many had feared, and we split into groups to enjoy the evening after an very satisfying day. Tomorrow we move into Wine Country...

Wine in Sonoma. Who's have thought it?

Some of the group "dining" at Della Santina's - not a plate in sight, but lots of glasses.....
